Artist statement

My photography is present and simple, and I am drawn to the fact that my photos is a direct imprint of the moods and surroundings present, in the very moment when I capture my works. My expression is honest and an emotional and exploratory reflection of inner human feelings, moods, and attitudes.

The motifs relate to studies of the themes of decay and transience, imprints or traces of time and the body (possibly related to both aforementioned themes). I mainly photograph my own emotions and usually describe it as me photographing from the inside out. It is often a responsive and intuitive process where an idea takes shape in my head based on my presence.

I use analog and digital when I takes photographs, and often include experimental and historical processes. I choose the technics based on what I want to express. My work process is often physical, experimental, naive, and based on the materials working for me within a given framework. That being said, it all overlaps in both theme and expression, because there are both X, Y and Z axes in my photographic universe.

In addition to educations from various photographic visual art schools, I am a trained laboratory technician and further a paper and photo conservator from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation. Through my professional work and educations, I have extensive material knowledge and understanding of the chemical processes, which I actively include to achieve my specific expression.

For me, photography is the perfect means of expression as at a given time it captures light, motif, mood and mixes it all together into an expression that describes just that moment. This is the basic philosophy I work from; that everything that is and happens, the moment I create my motif, comes into the picture.
