Jagten på Competas Palmer // The Hunt for Competas Palm Trees

“My project at the Page Turner Workshop at Photobook Week Aarhus 2020 is called
“Jagten på Competas Palmer”//”The Hunt for Competa’s Palm Trees”.
Through the combination of my work as conservator and visual artist I often has the historical and tactile perspective in my mind. The inspiration for my photo book dummy came to me through my work with archival material as old notes, records and diaries from earlier expeditions and educational travelers. It is an investigation over how we as humans often keep searching for unexplored areas both inside and outside our self and the change or the feeling you hoping to find, is often to find in yourself if you dare to explore your inner landscape.
The project started a couple of years ago and it has always been the plan that it should end up in a book format. In the dummy version the cover is inspired by classic historical archival storage. There is an inner cover with images and an envelope with 6 inkjet prints of pinhole photographs taken in Cómpeta, Spain, summer 2018. Furthermore, it contains a booklet with around 17 photographs from Cómpeta, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Botanisk Have and from my home at Amager. All taken from 2018-2020 and it is both scanned analog negatives, prints, polaroid’s, digital files, and some small text pieces which varies between factual text and some personal considerations.”
